Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy often used for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder where a previous traumatic event is causing an issue leading to either substance use or a psychiatric disorder. The therapy includes having the patient recall a distressing image or event while receiving bilateral sensory input. This can be side-to-side eye movements or hand tapping. The aim is to reduce stress related to the event by helping the individual habituate to the traumatic experience and dissipate its emotional choke-hold. UR will provide this therapeutic service for appropriate clients based on a thorough psychiatric and psychological evaluation.
