Anxiety disorders take many forms. All can be debilitating in their own way.
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder is excessive worry that keeps you from engaging in and enjoying daily activities.
- Panic Disorder produces panic attacks that can include rapid heartbeat, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea or more.
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder includes obsessing about fears and the temporary relief that comes from engaging in a compulsive behavior to control what feels unmanageable. A phobia is an extreme fear of a usually harmless activity or situation.
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder affects individuals who have survived an overwhelming experience that exposed them to life-threatening physical or emotional pain.
We know that anxiety often accompanies addictive disorders, and that many people self-medicate for anxiety. We apply evidence-based treatments such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), or mindfulness, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to the treatment of anxiety as part of an individual’s assessment and treatment.
If anxiety impedes your life and escalates your substance use, the good news is that it is one of the most treatable mental health conditions with one of the highest “cure” rates. We may not make your anxiety disappear in 35 days, but we can teach you the tools and skills you need to manage it, shift your perspective on it through acceptance rather than avoidance, and to develop the confidence you need to participate fully in your life despite any fears and doubts about the “what ifs” of the future.
Our treatment will begin with a diagnosis and individualized care plan that may or may not include group therapy, family therapy, coping skills as well as mindfulness and other treatments.
